I just got back from an amazing year in Edinburgh, Scotland. While there, I was a member of a creative writing group where I met some fantastic writers. I want to start a similar group in the DC area because I know we have many great writers in the area as well. So here we are. The group brings together writers of all ages and from all walks of life. Whether you are a new writer or have published, all are welcome. If writing is your life, search for a group no longer. The format will be writer …
Monkeys with Typewriters (MoWiTy) is an extreme writing group bent on hammering out our novels (or whatever projects we're working on) and having fun too. If infinite monkeys can create a masterpiece, so can we. We do not limit ourselves to writing -- any creative endeavor a member feels like working on is appropriate for MoWiTy. During meetings, our members write, draw, blog, design, code, or work on whatever other project he or she is up to. The purpose of our meetup is to provide members with …

Sign up for updates on weekly …

A mix of a writing circle and an art collective, Brush & Quill will use a combination of structured activities and improvisational writing and drawing to create individual and collaborative poems, prose, drawings, and paintings. In addition to writing and art, we sometimes break out a word or art game. Although, we sometimes do structured writing and art activities, the group, overall, is more of a social art and writing session. We typically meet in and around Silver Spring, Rockville, an …
This is a group for writers who want to grow in the craft and help others grow. This group is dedicated to writers of all genres. If you need a push to pick up your pen or laptop, we are the group for you. The goal is to remind writers why they started writing in the first place, and why they still write. We are an established writing critique group looking to add a few new members. This group is for writers of literary fiction only, whether that be novel segments or short stories. We meet on the first Sunday of the month (unless it's a major holiday) in D.C. and critique two to three stories that have been passed out and read ahead of time. We're a dedicated group of writers who have been meeting for three years, so we are cautious about bringing in new members. We'll want to meet you and see ho …

This group fosters the development of local authors' work through honest but fair criticism; to provide encouragement and inspiration to those authors as they write and submit their work for publication; and to provide a support network for those authors. There are no fees or dues, but the Speculative Wordsmiths require a serious commitment. Members must be willing to participate fully in the group's activities, and to give as much as they receive. Strong membership participation is critical to …

We are a group of writers who enjoy imaginative, perhaps even offbeat, fiction. Our goal is to write well--or at least better--but with the freedom to make mistakes. We are not here to necessarily produce polished, publishable fiction, but to rather to carve out a space where writers can experiment and have fun in a relaxed and supportive environment. Speculative fiction--which includes science fiction, horror, steampunk, dystopian fiction, and fantasy genres--allows writers of fiction an oppor …

We hope to provide a open environment to encourage collaboration, critique and community. Amateurs to professionals are welcome, to share their thoughts, their stories and their experiences.
